    In my ignorance, I didn't consider the importance of the land of Poland in European history before reading this book. In addition to teaching me about Poland's history, the book was a joy to read. It was a classic Michener page-turner (I am a Michener fan). Having visited Krakow on three occasions with a focus on Jewish History, I have broadened my interest to the unique history of Poland and the solutions its proud people have found to survive.

James Mitchener's book is an extremely well written, /5().
